Blackberry OS 4.5 Update

Blackberry OS 4.5 Update

I’ve been using OS 4.3 with my blackberry 8320 for quite some time, I but recently upgraded to 4.5 last week. I just really wanted to use HTML on my email, now with the update I can view tables, fonts and text formatting.
Along with the upgrade, you also get Documents to GO, which enables you to edit word and power point files. You can also do an update inside “Documents to Go” and get Sheet to Go for free, which enables you to edit excel files.

I think making the update to Blackberry OS 4.5 is really worth it and I’m glad RIM is making a strong commitment to improve the Blackberry experience.

Note: how to enable HTML email messaging.
I needed to Resend the service books to my Blackberry to enable HTML emails, here’s the instructions to enable it: link

Great but I am running a Mac with no access to a PC (and so no IE) how do I update?

  3. VegasScoop says:

I thought that there was an IE developed for MAC users a long time ago. Did that stop?

  4. If I download the software, will it reset what I have on my phone?

This is an awesome update. I really like the HTML emails, as well as finally being able to view PDF and other documents. The internet is also better and you can now view YouTube videos as well :-) The only downside is that you have to have access to a PC in order to update your BB. I have a Mac so I had to borrow a friend. Just download the desktop manager and download the OS update directly from your provider…DON’T download it from the Blackberry website (I tried that and my phone wouldn’t work afterward) then follow the directions from your service provider on how to update. The desktop manager allows you to completely back you your entire phone including 3rd party apps…I didn’t lose anything when I upgraded! I hope this helps some people.

when i go to download the device software update it says my service provider does not support 4.5 i currently have 4.3 so does this mean i can’t upgrade without messing up my phone or is this just some legal junk that blackberry and my service provider are fighting over? 4.3 works fine i just can’t get these document viewers without 4.5I guess what i’m asking is: should i be concerned about my provider not supporting the upgrade or can i download anyway without complications?

I’m currently downloading the new software…. though task 10 of 11 waiting for device initialization is taking forever!!!Is this normal?

  9. James says:

How long should this take? It’s taking like 30 minutes or more so far?

  10. Julius says:

its been 40 min. and its still in its “Connecting to Device” stage (the first). WTF, is RIM retarded? my real question is: has it taken this long for anyone else?[My pc is running on the Vista OS and my BB is upgrading from 4.3 to 4.5]

  11. songbird says:

If I delete that file and update to 4.5 will I still be able to use my phone with my current provider who “dosn’t support” an upgrade above 4.3?

  12. Morne says:

I have a second hand blackberry 7230. I did not get any desktop software with it and now i cant connect my blackberry to my computer. What can i do?

  13. Nicholas says:

Task 10 of 11 took about 25 minutes for me.

The progress bar showed very little movement over that period, then shot to the end.

    I does eventually end though.
